Gaius Julius Caesar, came, saw and conquered and began a life's journey that has had a huge impact on civilization today. A brilliant military and political tactician he was capable of incredible ruthlessness and stunning beneficence. His legacy is enigmatic and contradictory. I am amazed that the same person who displayed the severed hands and heads of defeated generals and hunted down their families and killed all of them, was also the one who developed a more logical calendar, built roads and dams and aquaducts, built libraries and civic centers of commerce, and was killed by men he had pardoned. Clearly one of the most influential individuals in history.
