We often hear the Darwinian stories of animals evolving and developing their most notable traits as survival strategies. Running farther and faster than predators seems to be a successful one for horses. But when I watch the mares and foals tearing around the countryside, I am struck more by the fact that they are running, not as practice for a survival strategy, but for the pure, sublime, overwhelming joy of it.
This pair is made with what is called "magnet wire." It is copper, coated with a lacquer that keeps it bright and shiny through all kinds of weather.
