I still lapse into fond reminiscences of warm summer afternoons every time I hear the staccato clackety-snap of grasshoppers in flight. As the seasonal bait of choice for almost all my fishing adventures, they could be a very entertaining diversion when the fishing was less than ideal.
I find it very interesting that birds, fish, amphibians, small mammals and humans from various cultures around the world, all use hoppers as valuable sources of protein. But occasionally, some kinds of hoppers reach a magical critical mass and assume an entirely different collective identity. "They" seem to become "It" and become an incredibly destructive force. This, for me, raises once again, the persistent questions of identity and consciousness and duality in the universe.
